When attempting to install Deskscapes on Windows 8 Pro + Media Pack I get the following:

The install starts, and asks which folder to install to, I choose the default, and then get 4 dialog boxes in series (click ok and you get another).

each dialog box is basically empty but is labeled (on the top bar of the box) "1" then "2" then "3" and finally "4".. after clicking ok on the 4th box, the install continues.

Everything seems to go ok, and the dreams animate on the preview screen when you choose "customize deskscapes" from the explorer context pane (right click on the desktop). I choose a dream and for a split second it works, then just stops. the dream then looks like a static wallpaper.

I've unchecked the "Pause deskscape when maximized" and some other basic troubleshooting.. but no luck yet.

I'm using Windows 8 Pro x64 with the Media Pack addon for MPEG2 compatibility, with an Nvidia GTX680 v314 drivers (latest non-beta as of today)

This is a clean OS install, no other apps were installed, other than what comes with Windows 8.

I'm refraining from installing the Windows 8 codec pack until I hear that it causes no problems for Deskscapes.

Thanks in advance.

That was my bad (the dialog messages, was testing timing). If you install DirectX from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 are the dreams happy?

Installing Direct X fixed my problem with deskScape. I running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I would be helpful if Stardock would mention this when downloading the descape program.

Thanks for the help

We are going to tweak the detection/prompts for a forthcoming DeskScapes 8.1.
